Special Trainings
In addition to my training at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute as a Certified Rolfer®, I have sought out and completed several specialized trainings that further enhance my work. These are listed below:
Nerve Work with Jonathan Martine:
A new way of looking at fascia, correlating fascia restrictions, nerve pathways, and structural integrity, to enable a Certified Rolfer® to assess how the interaction between fascia, nerve pathways, and bodily structure can be improved
The nerve sheaths and fascia are intimately related, and an obstruction of one can and does affect the other. For instance, inflammation of the nerves and nerve sheaths aggravates fascia, which fascia can as a result further restrict and then re-aggravates the nerve and the nerve sheaths, in a vicious cycle that can be stopped by addressing both nerve entrapment and fascia mobility. Working in this way benefits the fascia, nervous system, joints, and ultimately enhances core stability
Ultimately peripheral nerve restrictions can be released and this can lead to long lasting beneficial changes and a more integrated bodily experience
Cranial Sacral techniques with the Upledger Institute:
Inter-cranial fascia does exist and responds to subtle and gentle work that rather surprisingly often has a large, beneficial and long lasting effect
Because Cranial Sacral techniques are so gentle they are accessible to a greater number of people
Cranial Sacral training enhances the body to body sensitivity of the Certified Rolfer® with its emphasis on subtle change and gentle technique
Sharon Wheeler. Her Bone Work, Scar Work and Advanced Classes:
Bone Work:
Bone is fascia and can be changed and integrated. It responds to pressure, rotational force, and tends to “find home” i.e., once freed from a fascia or a bone based entrapment, will tend to settle in a better more functional place. This is a concept that Sharon Wheeler calls “bone rolling”
Injuries to bone can be long lasting (e.g., post surgical bone cutting, screwing, replacing, motor vehicle accidents), but Bone Work can help both functionally and aesthetically the aftermath of that type of trauma
Scar Work:
Scar tissue is fascia that can be changed with proper hands on work. Scar work is gentle, never hurts, and is generally described as “very pleasant”
The scar tissue actually changes for the better, and this can be seen directly during and after a Scar Work session. Scars often smooth out, sometimes to the point of partly of even fully disappearing. Consistently the scar feels better, and the restrictions caused by the scarred area are gone
Advanced Class:
Sharon Wheeler was one of the youngest of the Ida Rolf’s (Founder of Rolfing Structural Integration) students. This Advanced Class was full of wisdom and techniques handed down directly to Sharon Wheeler from Ida Rolf. And the techniques were taught in the context that this was how Ida Rolf taught Sharon Wheeler.
A certain intuitive touch, seeing with your hands, developing an unerring sense of what deep work is needed and how that deep work can be intuitively and humanely accomplished. A sense of layering and techniques to not just adjust and feel the obvious fascia layers, but to proceed past the obvious and into the more hidden but no less important territory. And a lot of philosophy and stories about Ida Rolf, which always had a point in the techniques demonstrated.
